A man awaiting sentence for molesting a girl has been locked up for flouting the Sex Offenders' Register.

Stephen Southworth, 59, who is banned by bail conditions from having unsupervised contact with youngsters under 16, had recently been staying at a guest house in Haworth, West Yorkshire.

Children might be staying there and could be at risk, Burnley magistrates heard.

Southworth, who had not told police his address after recently being convicted of indecent assault, wanted to go back to the guest house, the court was told.

He had been arrested walking with his girlfriend in Haworth.

The defendant, of Berkley Street, Nelson, admitted two counts of failing to comply with the register by not telling police his address, on June 25 and August 1.

He was remanded in custody until Sept 10, after the bench committed him to the crown court to be sentenced for the breaches at the same time as the indecent assault.

The court was told Southworth was found guilty of the "historic" sex assault at Preston Crown Court on June 22.

He had not told police where he was living within three days of the conviction and also several weeks later.

David Lawson, defending, said South-worth had not had a fixed address to give after he was convicted. He then lived at Tavistock Street in Nelson, but that address became no longer available to him.
