A CATHOLIC group has raised more than £7,000 for charity over Lent.
Darwen Catholics hosted family fast days to raise money to help communities around the world to grow crops and receive better nutrition as part of this year’s Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD) Lent campaign.
Parishes across Darwen hosted the fast days, where communities enjoyed a simple meal and donated the money saved to charity to help fund agricultural training, education, and clean water projects for communities living in poverty.
The group raised £3,756.69. All donations made to CAFOD’s Lent Appeal were doubled by the Government, bringing the total to £7,512.38.
Group member Carmel Wanless said: “It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to be part of such a proactive, lively group of people.”
