CALLS for the quality of driving to be improved around a junction have been made after a four-car crash.

CCTV footage captured the moment an Audi saloon car drove through a red light and crashed into three other cars.

The video provided by Sikander Aslam show the cars crash at a Whalley New Road junction, in Blackburn at 12.45pm on Wednesday.

There have been several incidents at that junction, including the death of nine-year-old Adam Limbada, who was hit by a BMW 4 Series in August 2016.

Mr Aslam, who works on the road, said everyone was in shock when they saw the latest crash.

He said: “That road is a bad spot, people are driving badly there a lot.

“We see people driving past too fast all the time.

“A poor boy was killed there a couple of years ago, something should be done about it.

“There should be cameras or signs put up to warn people and make them drive more appropriately.

“Someone is going to be seriously injured or killed if something isn’t done.”

The Audi hits a car on the junction, before swerving and striking the back of a Ford Galaxy and the front of a Peugeot.

A police spokesman said no one suffered any serious injuries.

Blackburn with Darwen Council’s highways boss Cllr Phil Riley said: “It is not a dangerous junction, it’s about driver’s behaviour on the roads.

“We have recently spent quite a lot of money money altering pavements and to make roads safer. It is important road users understand they can put people’s lives at risk by performing dangerous manoeuvres.

“The rules of the road are there to keep people safe and they should be obeyed.”

Lancashire Telegraph website readers posted their views on the incident.

One reader commented: “Sadly this is the standard of driving observed these days on my journey home through Blackburn.”

Another reader said: “This standard of driving seen on a daily basis locally.”
