A COUNCIL has announced that it has worked with local developers and housing associations to bring eight new affordable homes to the market.

Ribble Valley Borough Council has said that the two and three-bed properties will be up for sale from just £66,500 in a bid to tackle the borough's 'chronic shortage of affordable homes.'

Five of the houses are in Clitheroe, with the remaining three available at the Monks Cross development in Whalley.

Shared ownership of the two and three-bedroom properties allows payments to be split between mortgage and rent, with ownership typically starting at a 35 per cent share.

Bridget Hilton, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s health and housing committee, said: “The provision of affordable housing is one of the biggest challenges facing the council and we are working closely with our housing partners to address this problem.

“We are delighted that these properties have become available."
