A PUB landlady who is renaming her pub in tribute to Clarets boss Sean Dyche hopes he will pay a visit at the end of the season.

The Princess Royal, located less than half a mile away from Turf Moor, will be given a new name, The Royal Dyche, if the Burnley manager secures European football for the Clarets next season.

The Burnley boss is now just one game away from ensuring the team qualify for the Europa League, which has left the town's fans in awe of Dyche's achievement, including Burnley pub landlady Justine Lorriman.

The 26-year-old, who has run The Princess Royal for nearly five years, said the idea was joked about when Burnley were just three points off the Champions League places in December last year.

She said: "I thought if we get into Europe we have to got to get (Sean Dyche) in this season. I never thought we would actually get into the Europa League. It was just a joke and yet here we are. It's brilliant.

"I'm going to the Burnley player awards on Monday and hope to get the chance to speak to Sean about the idea and get his blessing."

After getting permission from the building owner to change the name of the pub, a couple of ideas were suggested, including the Prince of Proudsville and Princess Dyche.

Pub bosses opted for The Royal Dyche because it reflected the traditional name of the pub while incorporating the name of the manager.

A logo has been designed by punter Liam Robinson, 23, of Coal Clough Lane.

Ms Lorriman, of Brunshaw, said Liam's design will be similar to the final product, but a bit of extra claret and blue thrown in.

The landlady said they may have to make a statue for the Burnley boss in the beer garden if he achieves more success next season.

The name-change idea has caught the imagination of the nation's sporting medie. Ms Lorriman said: "The interest has been great. It's an honour and a big deal for me because the pub has not always had a good name.

"Everybody thought it was a bit rough. I used to avoid the place.

"This is another step in the right direction."

And on Burnley's chances of competing in the Europa League, she said: "When you look at the teams above us I don't see why we do not stand a good chance. The flag will be coming with us to. We always take it to away games."

The plan comes just a year after bosses at the Yorkshire Street pub said Dyche would be served free drinks at the bar for securing another season of Premier League football.
