ROSEMERE Cancer Foundation's Spring concert was a huge success at Blackburn Cathedral.

The event raised £2,813.20 in total from contributions, as the concert itself was free, but audiences were asked to donate to a retiring collection.

Hosted by BBC Radio Lancashire's John Gilmore, the popular event saw headline singer Linda Tolchard take the mike. The soprano from Heysham was a hit with music fanatics last year, and returned this year to support the concert.

Also performing, were St. Christopher's CE High School Jazz Band from Accrington, and Preston's BAE Systems Workplace Choir.

Attendees included the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn, Cllr's. Colin and Jean Rigby, with over 400 people also in attendance.

Louise Grant, Rosemere Cancer Foundation's East Lancashire fundraising co-ordinator, said: "All our performers were on top form. Our leading lady, Linda Tolchard sent shivers down your spine one moment with her beautiful folk ballads and the next, she had you on your feet with her rousing renditions of 'Land of Hope and Glory,' and 'Jerusalem'.

"Our choirs were excellent and members of St Christopher's CE High School Jazz band were a credit to themselves, their teachers, and school for their composure."

Money raised will go to help fund the best treatments available to cancer patients in Lancashire and South Cumbria being treated by Rosemere.
