HYNDBURN Leisure is hosting a variety of events to encourage people to travel a mile as part of a health initiative.

‘Your Mile Your Way’ is being coordinated by Lancashire County Council as part of its active lives and healthy weight programme on May 18.

People across Hyndburn are being asked to walk, run, hop, skip, jump or swim to mark the occasion.

The aim is to encourage at least 24,901 people to pledge to take part in Your Mile Your Way Day, which in cumulative distance terms would equate to going around the world.

Hyndburn Leisure is hosting a walking football session delivered by Accrington Stanley Community Trust at Hyndburn Leisure Centre for people over 50.

There will also be swimming, rowing, walking, running, exercise classes on at the centre and Mercer Hall leisure centre in Clayton-le-Moors.

Outdoor gardening and greenspace classes will also be on offer.

Head of health and wellbeing, Linda Horsfield said: “There’s a fantastic range of activities available. The great thing about Your Mile Your Way is that it will encourage even more people to get active so on this day.”
