A DISQUALIFIED driver has been arrested following a coordinated police effort.

Patrols across East Lancashire worked together to locate and arrest a disqualified driver overnight.

A police spokesman said a red Vauxhall Insignia was sighted by patrols in Simonstone last night and pursued at length down the A59 during which the vehicle reached speeds in excess of 100mph.

The vehicle was then abandoned in Langho and the driver was arrested on suspicion of Disqualified Driving, Dangerous Driving and Failing to stop for Police.

Police said they dealt with a number of incidents on Saturday night, including a vehicle that was stopped on the M65 after reaching speeds of 107 mph and a motorist in Nelson was arrested for failing a roadside drugs test.

A police spokesman said their vehicle had been seen by an officer earlier in the evening driving dangerously.

 It was later seen by other officers who stopped it and administered the drugs test, the driver was subsequently arrested.
