AN MP has paid tribute to Bill Oddie, the managing director of the family-run Oddie's Bakery, following his sudden death.
Just days after celebrating 30 years at the helm of East Lancashire's best-known bakeries, Mr Oddie, 76, has died. He owned a baker's dozen of outlets across the region, including Blackburn, Nelson and Accrington, and steered the 113-year-old firm through recession.
Founded by Bill’s grandfather, William Henry Oddie, the first shop opened in Colne in 1905, and it then passed to Jack who ran the company for decades before it passed to Bill in 1988
Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson has offered his condolences following the death of Mr Oddie and paid tribute to his contribution to the local economy.
Mr Stephenson said, “I am very sorry to hear that Bill has passed away and offer my condolences to his family, as well as to the staff at Oddie’s Bakery.
“Bill did so much to keep Oddie’s going through tough times, ensuring its long-term future. I enjoyed discussing a range of business issues with him and his passion for our local area always shone through. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”
