FRIENDS of a man who died after being taken into police custody are planning to hold a football tournament in his honour.
A meeting will be held at the Jinnah Community Centre, Brougham Street, Burnley, next Monday, to allow the family and friends of Nadeem Khan to tell community leaders their concerns about the death.
Mr Khan, known as Dean to his friends, died in hospital on Saturday, June 30 following what officers described as a violent struggle' in Burnley Road, Brierfield.
Mohammad Sijjeel Quadri, who grew up with Mr Khan, is hoping to have a trophy named after the father-of-two for the football tournament.
The businessman said: "We are trying to get all the local teams to take part.
"We are also trying to organise a meeting for next Monday for councillors to get answers about what happened.
"We want to get his body released so we can lay him to rest and get answers."
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 6pm and is open to the public.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating Mr Khan's death. The findings of its inquiry should be announced in mid September.
