AN East Lancs DJ is celebrating after landing his own show on BBC Radio 1.
Jordan North, who has previously worked as a freelancer on the station, has been named as the new host for the Greatest Hits show on Sunday mornings.
Jordan, from Burnley, told the Lancashire Telegraph: “What a great start to my 2018 - I’m absolutely made up. This has been a childhood ambition of mine, so to get my own show on Radio 1 and officially be part of the family is just amazing.
“To be honest, it’s not properly sunk in, but I can’t wait to be back on air and start presenting Radio 1’s Greatest Hits.
“If you’ve heard me on air then you’ll know that I make it no secret that I’m proud Clarets fan and I’ll continue to shout about the great season we’re having.
“I just hope I can still make it on the to some games on the Turf this season.
“I’ve had loads of lovely messages from people across the town, mainly because my Grandma Glennis and Aunty Maggie have pretty much stopped everybody in the street and told them.
“So I’d like to say thanks to everyone that has been in touch it really does mean a lot to me. I’ve even had a few pints bought for me which is nice!”
Jordan has previously taken to the airwaves to berate Match of the Day host Gary Lineker on his beloved Burnley FC’s billing on the Saturday night football highlights show.
Jordan began his radio career presenting on student and community stations like Preston FM and Spark FM and has also hosted shows on the likes of Rock FM, The Hits and Capital Manchester.
Other new faces joining the station’s new weekend line-up include I’m a Celebrity star Scarlett Moffatt, singer Mollie King and MTV presenter Maya Jama.
And current presenters Dev and Alice Levine will now officially join forces to co-host Radio 1’s Weekend Breakfast show.
Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper said: “It’s brilliant to welcome the next generation of superstars to Radio 1.”
