A LEADING councillor said there are ‘good and bad points’ to plans to turn the former Accrington Conservative Club into apartments.
Proposals to turn the former grade two listed Conservative club into 24 apartments will go before Hyndburn Planning committee at a meeting tomorrow.
The Cannon Street building, which dates back to 1890, was partly demolished in May 2016 after it was ravaged by a huge fire.
Planing officers recommend plans are ‘granted with conditions’ by the committee at the meeting.
Cllr Tony Dobson, who represents the area on Hyndburn Council, said he has some concerns about the plans, but they do have many positive features.
He said: “We’ve had a meeting with the applicant, and there are some good points about the plans.
“What they are doing with some of the original front of the building and keeping that is a good thing.
“The concerns are the price of rent and the demographic of people it reaches to.
“I think on the whole it is a not bad application.”
A decision will be made on the proposals at the Hyndburn planning committee meeting at Scaitcliffe House in Ormerod Street.
