A CAKE artist has won an international award for her wildlife cake design.
Molly Robbins, from Crawshawbooth, received ‘gold’ recognition for her sugarcraft and cake decorating design at the world's largest cake decoration show, Cake International at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
Around 1,500 cakes were on display and presented to judges at the competition, which has been running for 20 years.
The 26-year-old star of Channel 4 Extreme Cake Makers, who also creates cakes for weddings, christenings and birthdays, said this was her ‘best’ performance in the competition, which she says keeps growing from strength to strength.
Molly’s cake design, which took three days to make, is of a orangutan sat on the shell of a tortoise while holding an open banana.
Molly, who was taken part in the competition five times and won ‘gold’ three times, said: “This is the best cake I have made and I’m thrilled because it’s harder to get gold these days because hundreds of people from all around the world take part.
“The cake has a normal Madeira cake base with icing on top.
“The cake designs tend to be wildlife and animal centric.
“My cake was definitely one of the most popular ones of the show.
“It’s like a nice family friendly design and it’s popular.
“I like it because the design is lovely and it came out real cute.
“The home response is everyone is pleased which is really nice.”
Molly, is the daughter of comedian and radio presenter Ted Robbins.
Molly, the UK cake artist ambassador said of her time on Extreme Cake Makers, said: “ I have done 20 episodes and each episode I have created a different cake.
“All of them have been big and extreme or very detailed or interactive.
“It seems like a lot of work to make them but in actual fact it takes a similar amount of time to create each one.”
The Channel 4 series is still in production and is due to be released in February 2018.
