A TEENAGER was brought to tears after his £2,000 tent was stolen at the Beat-Herder festival.

Brad Thompson, 19, attended the summer event at Dockber Farm in Sawley with his girlfriend and left the tent, a Howling Moon 1.6 Tourer, securely attached to his car at a festival car park on Friday.

Returning on Sunday after staying in another tent at the festival, the Accrington man discovered someone had torn it from the roof of his silver Nissan Pathfinder.

The Rolls-Royce worker said he was absolutely devastated.

He said: “We got back to the car and I couldn’t believe it.

“I had only had it six months and it was gone.

“My girlfriend burst into tears and I told the security team what happened, I then had a cry.

“It’s so unfair. I love camping, I’ve been all over the country in that tent.

“I used to take it to the top of Scotland or Cornwall, now I have nothing.

“There’s scratches on top of the car where the tent was dragged from.”

Thousands of people attended the three-day music festival at the weekend.

It was headlined by electric folk band Crystal Fighters, hip-hop star Kelis, punk group Sleaford Mods, Danish electronic group Trentemoller and long-standing reggae performers Toots and the Maytals.

Mr Thompson, a former Hollins Technology College student, said: “The tent weighs 66 kilograms and it’s more than a metre-and-a-half wide. It wasn’t getting pinched by a drunk festival-goer on an off-chance.

“I think this was a targeted job.

“It would have to have been either two really strong lads or a group of people who went to purposely steal stuff.

“We told the security team who then told the police.

“I feel very depressed now because we went to have a good time and then this happened.”

A police spokesman said: “The tent was taken from the roof of a silver car which had been parked in a secure car park at Dockbert Laithe Farm in Sawley.

“The tent had cost in the region of £2,000. No other items were stolen in this incident.

“No-one has been arrested.”

A police spokesman said money and a mobile had been stolen on separate occasions during the festival, however these are not believed to be linked.

Anyone with information about the tent’s whereabouts can contact the police on 101.
