A POLICE officer accused of assaulting an 'innocent' man and then claiming he had been attacked has been found not guilty.

Jurors at Liverpool Crown Court cleared PC Jason Livesey, based at Greenbank, Whitebirk, and who worked in Accrington, this morning.

Livesey, of Walton-le-Dale, has pleaded not guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm, attempting to pervert the course of justice and perjury.

Liverpool Crown Court has heard prosecution claims that Livesey, 34, deliberately and unlawfully assaulted Lee Sayers and arrested him for police assault and threatening behaviour knowing that was untrue .

PC Livesey declined to comment after the case.
