RESIDENTS pulled together for a project to get a community garden ready for the North West in Bloom 2007 competition.
More than 20 residents from Stubbins, Strongstry and Chatterton were joined by councillors Darryl Smith and Anne Cheetham and Conservative parliamentary candidate Jake Berry, at the Bolton Road North community garden.
In bad weather, they removed wire fencing and laid plants and flowers.
In addition other residents helped put up hanging baskets outside properties in Stubbins and weeded footpaths.
Coun Smith said the efforts had definitely been worth it despite everyone getting soaked.
He said: "The garden is looking fabulous now and is a massive improvement on what it was like previously.
"I'm sure the judges will not fail to be impressed by the hard work and commitment of all the residents who turned out on the day and for what they have achieved."
