A COMMUNITY centre will be helping young people in Burnley cook up a storm after scooping thousands of pounds worth of grants.
Stoneyholme and Daneshouse Community Association, along with the Youth and Community Service, will offer a basic training course to give young people help to get into the food industry.
The community association has received donations totalling 4,200 from Burnley Lancashire Local and the Youth into Employment fund.
Youth and community manager at the centre, Riaz Mohammed, said: "We're looking to help young people improve their job prospects by getting a qualification and practical skills which will demonstrate their worth to potential employers.
"I'm concerned that a number of young people in our community are not in any kind of job, training or education. This is a situation which puts their whole future at risk and can lead to them ending up on the wrong side of the law.
"Many of the young people who use our centre show a keen interest in cooking and learning about various tasks in and around the kitchen.
"This programme will improve their confidence by helping them to get a job and demonstrate to themselves and others that they have real potential and the capability to make progress in life."
The course will be run by Nelson and Colne College's catering department.
