A 20-year-old man jailed for an indecent assault on a 71-year-old woman failed to register with police within three days of his release.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Adam Daniel Collier turned up at Colne police station a day late to register as required by conditions of being on the sex offender register.
But defence solicitor Michael Singleton said it was "hard to imagine" a more minor breach of the legislation.
Collier, 20, of Haworth House Bail Hostel, St Peter Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with registration requirements. He was given a conditional discharge for six months and the magistrates made no order for costs.
