THE opening of a new bar in Blackburn will contribute to the ‘rebirth’ of the town’s nightlife, according to its owner.

Ronnie Brown who has been part of the night scene in the town for more than 30 years, is turning the former Live Lounge bar in Northgate, into ‘Loop’.

Mr Brown, from Mill Hill, said the new venue will provide a variety of different music nights from punk and indie to dance.

The former North Bar owner spent time as a DJ and promoter for Blackburn’s C’est la Vie, a popular spot for clubbers.

Mr Brown said he wanted to make the bar open to a wide range of people.

He said: “The previous bar had a very young clientele, but we’re hoping that will change. I hope the bar will help contribute to the town’s nightlife, to get it back to how it used to be. I saw it in its heyday and it was brilliant.”

The Live Lounge closed down in 2013 after being part of Blackburn’s music scene for several years.

In recent months bars and clubs have begun to reappear including the Cellar Bar in King Street, as part of a plan to revive the nighttime economy in the town.

The Hawaiian-themed Tiki Monkey in King William Street is set to open in March, next door to the town’s newest micropub, The Drummer’s Arms. Loop is set to create around 10 jobs, from bar and cleaning staff, doormen and light technicians.

Mr Brown said: “Blackburn lost its way throughout the years but it’s now coming back, there’s been lots of great places open recently. I cannot wait to get it going and open for business, it’s going to be great.” “Together the clubs and bars will make the town a booming place to be once again.”The bar opens on February 11.
