A MAN had to be led to safety by his brother who returned home from a night out to find their kitchen on fire.
Fire bosses have warned revellers to buy a take away and not cook following the incident which happened at a flat in Ightenhill Park Lane, Burnley.
The man, who had been drinking, fell asleep in his bedroom, leaving a cloth on the hob which caught fire.
His brother returned home to find a small fire in the kitchen.
Fire crews were called to the flat just after 3.15am on Saturday.
The man was not seriously injured in the fire.
John Davies, watch manager at Burnley fire station said the flat's smoke detector had been disconnected.
He said: "The kitchen and the living room was heavily smoked logged but luckily his bedroom door was closed.
"The fire was small but it is the smoke which is the killer.
"If his bedroom door had have been opened it could have been a lot worse."
