A BOY who was seriously injured when a car crashed into a brick wall while he was riding in the boot has almost made a full recovery.
Lee Bennison, 16, was in a coma for 10 days following the crash in Whalley Road, Accrington, at around 10pm on May 11.
Lee, of Riverside View, Clayton-le-Moors, had been sitting in the boot of the car and sustained serious head injuries after he was thrown forward into the back seat by the impact.
The Vauxhall Astra, which contained five other people, hit a wall near The Crown pub.
Lee's mother Jackie said: "It has been a truly awful experience but he is getting much better.
"It has been very traumatic for us all and we are only just able to start talking about what happened.
"He is desperate to put it all behind him but he is still remembering bits of what happened. It is very painful for him."
Lee was taken to intensive care at Royal Blackburn Hospital following the accident where he remained for three weeks.
The former pupil of St James' Primary School, Burnley Road, Altham, lives with his mum and three sisters Amy, 22, Chloe, four, and Olivia, two.
He started his apprentice-ship as a bricklayer with Alan Duffy Builders, Accrington, last September after leaving St Christopher's High School, Accrington.
Jackie said: "He is starting to think about going back to work but we have to make sure he doesn't do too much too soon.
"But the way things are at the moment it isn't going to be too far before that happens.
"He is back to doing normal things and gets out and about a bit but he's not quite there yet.
"He is just a bit forgetful - but then so am I so maybe that's nothing to do with the accident!"
The 19-year-old driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after providing a positive breath test.
He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
