A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been accused of killing a Darwen man who died after sustaining a stab wound.

Neil Francis Walsh, 47, of Clement Street, Darwen, died after receiving a severe stab wound to his upper right thigh at a home in Harwood Street, Darwen, on Friday, May 4.

Police have charged Brendan Earl Mizon, of Harwood Street, Darwen, with manslaughter.

He is due to appear before Blackburn magistrates tomorrow.

Four people had been arrested by police investigating Mr Walsh's death.

Three were released without charge.

One of these, Tony Houghton, has previously told the Lancashire Telegraph how he tried to revive his unconscious friend.

Mr Walsh's vein and an artery in his leg had been severed.

Speaking after his arrest, Mr Houghton, of Clement Street, Darwen, told the Lancashire Telegraph that there was so much blood "it was like a bloodbath".

A next door neighbour gave Mr Walsh CPR, but he died at the scene from blood loss.

"I had known him for over 20 years," said Mr Houghton at the time.

"He was very sociable and got on well with everybody.

"He was into his music, especially underground punk stuff.

"He played the guitar and made a right racket - but to him it was great."

A police spokesman said: "Detectives in Blackburn have charged a man in connection with the death of a Darwen man.

"Brendan Earl Mizon has been charged with man-slaughter and has been bailed to appear before Blackburn Magistrates' Court on Friday.
