A FATHER-OF-TWO has raised thousands of pounds for cancer charities by touring the country on a motorbike.
Peter Barraclough, of Padiham Road, Burnley, raised £5,000 when he rode 4,000 miles in 10 days on a 1,000cc Honda motorcycle with friend Ian Newton-Brown, of Warton, Blackpool.
The duo, are raising funds for the charities that helped care for Mr Newton-Brown's brother-in-law Ian Newton who died in December.
Mr Barraclough said: "We managed to raise £5,000. Everything went superbly and the weather bucked up beautifully and followed us all the way."
They made flying visits' to BAe Systems facilities, which employs Mr Newton-Brown, and RAF bases across the country, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Trinity Hospice, Blackpool.
The surveyor, who has been riding motorbikes for more than 40 years, lost his mother-in-law to breast cancer a couple of years ago.
The pair started in Blackpool on Wednesday May 30, and finished on Friday June 8.
Mr Newton-Brown came up with the idea last November and the pair were inspired by the round-the-world-ride which Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman undertook.
The tour was backed by the International Motorcylists Tour Club (IMTC)
