A Blackburn man was jailed for seven days by the town's magistrates after pleading guilty to stealing two pairs of trousers from T J Hughes.
The court imposed the sentence after hearing that Marc Hollins, 32, of Surrey Road, had been jailed for 30 days on June 8 for breach of a community penalty.
Daniel King, defending, said Hollins had a drug problem which to an extent he had been able to control.
"The recent offences show he has slipped back and having received a custodial sentence he intends to use it in a positive and productive way, leaving prison clean of drugs," said Mr King.
