A MAN was attacked in his own home and had to be rushed to hospital with a knife stuck in his back.
It was embedded to a depth of 11 cm just missing a main artery and victim Keith Bradley had sustained 30 to 35 areas of injury, some caused with a spade James Bibby, 22, of Stanley Street, Accrington, admitted wounding with intent.
He caused the stab wound and was given an indeterminate sentence for public protection.
He will serve a minimum of three years before his case is considered by the Parole Board but he will only be released when it is deemed to be safe to do so.
Peter George, 21, of Nutter Road, Accrington, admitted unlawful wounding. He caused an injury when he threw a speaker unit at Mr Bradley.
George was sentenced to six months imprisonment suspended for 18 months. He will be supervised for 18 months and will have to attend the Think First Programme.
He will also have to do 100 hours unpaid work.
Omar Saddiq, 25, of Carter Street, Accrington, admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice. He assisted Bibby by concealing his presence in his loft .
Saddiq was sentenced to six months imprisonment suspended for 18 months and will be supervised for 18 months.
Passing sentence Judge Anthony Russell QC said: "This was a terrible violent incident in which Mr Bradley was severely injured. It was a sustained attack."
Graham Pickavance, prosecuting, told Preston crown court it took place on April 23 last year.
Police were called to an address on Willows Lane, Accrington, and Bibby ran off while George was caught after a struggle.
Officers found that windows and furniture had been damaged and Mr Bradley, then aged 37, was on a settee with bleeding wounds.
Paramedics found the knife sticking out of his back. The blade had snapped from the handle and was on a settee. He was taken to hospital with the knife still in his back sticking out an inch.
The knife was very close to the spine and the main artery and there was damage to the outside layer of the aorta.
His scalp had 15 to 20 separate lacerations, he had stab wounds to his thigh and his little finger was broken.
It had been incorrectly believed the victim was a paedophile.
