A BURGLAR has been jailed for 29 months - after a witness recognised his his dog.
Burnley Crown Court heard how Martin Norwood, 18, had carried out the crimes to buy heroin for both himself and his parents.
Norwood, of Claremont Street, Brierfield, admitted attempted burglary and burglary.
The court heard he first tried to unsuccessfully open the patio doors of a house on Chatburn Park Drive, Brierfield, with a shovel.
He walked away and a neighbour saw him and his dog.
Two days later, on March 11, a woman returned to her home in Brierfield and noticed a dog standing at the bottom of the drive. Norwood had forced entry by removing a panel from the conservatory roof.
Joe Boyd, defending, said Norwood had had difficulties since the age of 12, but it was his first burglary since he was 15.
Sentencing, Recorder Andrew Nuttall said: "It's the hope of the court that you will mend your ways and break this cycle."
