A MAN with 20 previous convictions for driving while banned struck again - but magistrates said they did not want to ban him as he was now on the road legally for the first time in his life.
Burnley magistrates told Kenneth Mortimer, 37, he could end up in jail but they would not want his licence taken off him.
Chairman Lynn Kemp said the defendant had an "appalling" record for banned driving and had been to prison in the past.
She said the defendant, who had been banned 14 years ago until he took an extended driving test, had now passed it.
Mrs Kemp added: "You are now driving legally for the first time.
"We would be looking for you to keep your licence and would put penalty points on it."
Mortimer, of Browning Close, Colne, admitted driving while disqualified and no insurance.
He was bailed until July 3 for reports.
