A plan for a wildlife park could be halted amid cancer fears.

Councillors have called for an investigation into land at Glen Way, Brierfield, where a natural beauty spot has grown over the former gas works and coal pit.

Coun Frank Wren told Pendle Council's Brierfield and Reedley committee there was a significant incidence of illness, including cancer, around the site and suggested a stream could be leeching chemicals from contaminated soil into clean land.

Environmental health officers will investigate, and a progress report will be given to the next executive meeting.
