LEISURE staff took the plunge to take part in Burnley Council's 2007 lifeguard challenge.

The competition attracted 25 council staff who were put through their paces by training officers Scott Bryce and Natalie Metcalfe.

The challenges took the form of a series of water based tests, first aid and and a multiple choice question paper.

The event aimed to put all the lifesaving training and techniques leisure staff have to know into practise.

The winners were leisure assistants and swimming teachers Matt Holden and Andrew Greenwood with duty manager Matt Watson.
