A teenage sex pest has been jailed for seven years after exposing himself to two schoolgirls.

Kevin Hayman, 18, of St Matthews Street, Burnley, also tried to grab one of the teenagers as they made their way to school in January.

He had pleaded guilty to an offence of trying to touch a female over 13 and indecent exposure at an earlier hearing.

Hayman was given the jail term at a sentencing hearing at Preston Crown Court on Monday, police said.

He was given two years for the latest offences.

The remainder of the seven-year term was made up of an unexpired sentence from an earlier sexual offence. The details of his previous crime were not revealed.

Police said the sentence reflected Hayman's dangerous character and the serious nature of his offences.

Detective Constable Neil Marr, of Burnley CID, said Hayman approached the two girls, aged 15 and 16, as they walked to school along Clevelands Road, Burnley, on the morning of January 12.

He indecently exposed himself to them before trying to grab one of the two youngsters.

They immediately reported what had happened to police and Hayman was traced to a nearby address where officers found clothes which matched the description given by the victims.

DC Marr said: "It was really thanks to the swift reporting of this incident and the prompt actions of uniformed officers in following up the description of the offender which led to the case being brought to a successful conclusion. The length of the sentence reflects what a serious offence this was and what a dangerous character Hayman is.

"It will be a relief to the community to see him behind bars for a substantial period of time to prevent him committing any further offences of this nature."
