A COMMUNITY has been left shocked and saddened by the sudden death of an 11-day-old baby girl in Colne.

The girl was found unresponsive in her home in Thorn Grove on Tuesday morning and despite the best efforts of doctors at Royal Blackburn Hospital - later died.

A police spokesman said: “Police are investigating the sudden death of a baby in Colne.

“Officers were called around 7.40am on Tuesday, March 8, after an 11-day-old baby girl was found unresponsive at an address in Thorn Grove.

“Ambulance crews were deployed to her home and took her to Royal Blackburn Hospital where she later died.

“A post mortem examination to establish the cause of death will take place in due course.

“No one has been arrested in relation to this incident.”

The community said its thoughts go out to the baby’s family.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson said: “This is absolutely heartbreaking.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family at what must be an absolutely horrendous time.

“I am sure the community and people who know the family will rally around and provide them with as much support as they need.”

Cllr Dorothy Lord, who represents Pendle Central, said: “To lose a baby at 11 days is extremely sad.

“It’s tragic. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. All we can do is offer our help, support and condolences.”

A neighbour said: “I lost a daughter years ago when she was eight, but to lose a baby it makes you wonder if there is a God.

“It’s very shocking and sad. My sympathy goes to the family.”

Another resident said: “It’s very sad to hear. For a kid that old to die, I can’t believe it. My thoughts are with the family.”

The post-mortem examination to establish the cause of the girl’s death is due to take place in the next few days but no arrests have been made.
