TWO thieves who broke into a Blackburn nursery and stole cash have been branded ‘disgusting’.
CCTV footage of the burglary at Bumble Bees Nursery in Old Bank Lane, Shadsworth, has been released on social media.
Police have said they are looking for two men who stole about £1,000 in the incident, but have made no arrests.
The incident happened at 9.55pm on October 22 and Tracey Mayoh, who opened the nursery with business partner Lisa Saul in May, has urged anyone with information to come forward.
Mrs Mayoh said: “I’m angry. I just think it’s disgusting that anybody could do this to a children’s nursery. We’re a real hub in the community so I’m sure the family of whoever has done this will be adversely affected by their actions.
“All the parents have been really great and offered to help us clean up. But it was upsetting for the children. Nobody wants to go to nursery and have police walking around in the background.
“Thank God it wasn’t yesterday because we would have had to cancel our Hallowe’en party.
“If anyone does know anything then I would urge them to call the police.”
Mrs Mayoh said CCTV shows two men coming to the nursery, which has 65 children on its register, at 6.20pm and tampering with one of the cameras around the back of the property. They then return at 9.55pm, break into the building via the back door and steal a cash tin from the office.
Mrs Mayoh said: “We’re a nursery and we don’t keep large amounts of money on site. I don’t understand why these men targeted us, unless they wanted to steal some Lego blocks.”
A police spokeswoman said: “A burglary took place at Bumble Bees Nursery in Old Bank Lane overnight between October 22 and October 23. They made their way in to the office and stole approximately £1,000 in cash that was in a tin.
“I would ask anybody with information to contact police via 101, quoting crime reference number ED1514243.”
