A TEENAGE motorist is set to face a judge over the road death of an 18-year-old sports journalism student in Longridge last February.
Matthew James Hesketh, 18, was a rear passenger in a Peugeot 106 which collided with a taxi near to Forshaw's Dairy in Preston Road on February 3.
Another teenager was taken to Hope Hospital in Salford, with serious injuries.
Adam Thomas Catterall, 18, of Mill Lane, Goosnargh, has appeared before Blackburn magistrates, charged with causing Matthew's death by dangerous driving.
He was remanded on bail, as the case was sent to Preston Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing later this month.
Matthew, a keen footballer, was studying sports journalism at the University of Central Lancashire at Preston.
Tributes to the student, of Woodplumpton Lane, Preston, were led by his parents Andrew and Hilary.
And a host of family and friends expressed similar sentiments on a book of condolence on the Lancashire Telegraph's website. He also left a 16-year-old sister, Chloe.
The taxi driver received minor injuries.
