ROSSENDALE'S mayor will be serving tea and helping in a charity shop as part of his Community Day.
Coun Peter Steen will mark the end of his year in office with a day dedicated to helping and thanking the borough's unsung heroes.
On Tuesday, April 24, he will start the day accompanying a lollipop lady in Haslingden, followed by helping in Waterfoot's Red Cross branch and assisting a litter picker in Bacup.
Over lunch the mayor will help the dinner lady at Britannia Primary School, before he goes on patrol with Whitworth community police, and he will end the day by serving tea at Rossendale Hospice.
Coun Steen said: "The purpose of the Community Day is to thank people who work in the community day in and day out, but get very little attention - yet if they failed to turn out there would soon be problems."
Major Valley businesses are also being asked to donate to the Mayor's Charity fund, which will go to a number of smaller worthwhile causes and organisations in the borough.
