A 21-YEAR-OLD man suffered head and facial injuries when he was chased down the street and assaulted following a car crash.

Police said two cars, a beige Renault Megane and a silver Volkswagen Passat, were involved in the smash which happened in Whalley Old Road, in the Little Harwood area of Blackburn at around 7.25pm on Monday. A fracas then broke out.

A group of around 50 people are understood to have gathered near to Sabria’s in the moments following the collision, causing police to have to close off the road.

A police spokeswoman said the driver of the Renault was chased by the people in the Volkswagen.

When they caught up with the victim near to a newsagents, he was attacked causing injuries to his head. It is not thought his injuries were serious.

Paramedics were called to the scene, but nobody was taken to hospital.

Both vehicles involved in the crash needed to be moved by recovery vehicles.

The police spokeswoman said: “Officers believe that all parties involved are known to each other and it was an isolated incident.

“Three men from Blackburn were arrested.”

A 24-year-old man was arrested for section 18 wounding with intent and driving a motor vehicle dangerously. A 43-year-old man was arrested for grievous bodily harm with intent and a 28-year-old man was arrested for wounding with intent.

They were all in custody being questioned yesterday.

Coun Abdul Patel, who represents the Little Harwood ward, said residents in the area were shocked to hear what happened.

He said: “I heard that there had been an accident and it is very rare something like this happens in Little Harwood.

“People in the area are not used to used to seeing these kinds of things in this area.

“I think in these types of situations, everybody should just stay calm.”
