A BURNLEY primary school is quids in thanks to fitness fanatics at a nearby gym.
Youngsters at Wellfield Methodist and Anglican Church School will receive £12,000 of new sports equipment after Crow Wood Leisure won a national competition.
Members at the Royle Lane club finished in the worldwide top 20 of Technogym’s Let’s Move for a Better World campaign.

They scored 3.1 million ‘moves’ – measured by how quickly users moved on the gym’s equipment – inside three weeks, the first time the three million mark has been surpassed by a British venue.
Wellfield’s head teacher Janet Pay said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to get this wonderful equipment for our school and we’d like to express our gratitude to everyone at Crow Wood – especially the members who took part.
“It’s been a wonderful effort by everybody involved. I think it’s proved a real win-win for our community.”
Last October, Crow Wood invested £500,000 to upgrade its members-only gym with state-of-the-art Technogym machines.
It was the only venue in Burnley to compete in March’s competition.
Oliver Brown, director of Crow Wood Leisure, said: “The commitment of our members to the Let’s Move for a Better World campaign has been absolutely brilliant.
“We had hundreds of members sign up to take part and so each move they made when they worked out helped us score more ‘MOVEs’ in the challenge.
“We are the first UK health club to get over three million ‘MOVEs’ during a Technogym challenge, so we’re delighted.”
As a result of their efforts, the school will receive a circuit of Technogym metabolic exercise equipment, a session of professional training for physical education teachers, and a lifestyle seminar for pupils, parents and teachers.
