TWO men were set upon by a gang as they walked home through a subway.
Police said the two were walking through the subway opposite Nelson and Colne College, Scotland Road, Nelson, at around 1am on Saturday when they were attacked by between 10 and 12 youths.
The victims, aged 23 and 19, were punched and kicked to the floor, where the teenagers continued to attack them, but neither of them were seriously hurt.
Sergeant Mick Nicholls, of Nelson police, said: "This was a completely unprovoked attack by a large group of people.
"Their two victims had done nothing to warrant it and were shaken up by the incident."
All of the group were described as white and in their late teens. One of the attackers was slim, 5ft 7in tall, with spiky ginger hair and wearing a blue checked shirt.
Another was wearing a white top and jeans.
Sgt Nicholls asked anyone with information about the attack to contact police on 01282 425001, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
