DOUBLE yellow lines and ‘slow’ markings have been renewed to make the roads around St Francis’ CofE Primary School, in Blackburn, safer for children.
The junction of Cherry Tree Lane and Preston Old Road saw the road asphalted and double yellow lines re-painted, and there are also fresh signs and hatch markings.

Councillor Stephanie Brookfield, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s road safety champion, said this was to reinforce the need for parents dropping off and picking up their children at the school on Cherry Tree Lane to park safely and legally and minimise the risk of traffic problems at the school.
She said: “These markings are a big reminder to everyone dropping off and collecting children from school that safety is the most important thing.
“People need to realise how dangerous inconsiderate parking can be. Everyone has a responsibility to keep our roads safe, especially for children.”
Councillor Maureen Bateson, executive member for regeneration, added: “The council takes road safety issues extremely seriously, and we have carried out these improvements to improve safety.”
