Accrington Stanley boss gives his football philosophy back in the classroom

The former primary school teacher went back to class to be quizzed by an audience of youngsters.

Students from Huncoat Primary School, in Lynwood Road, Accrington, fired their questions at Coleman after propelling their school team to Wembley.

The young stars recently emerged victorious in the Kinder+ Sport Kids Cup League Two North regional final, where they beat a York team managed by former Manchester City player Danny Mills.

They will now make the long trip to play on the hallowed turf in London in May.

The players used yesterday’s visit to quiz the Reds’ manager about a number of topics.

These included life in the professional game, preparing for a big match and his thoughts ahead of tonight’s game against Newport County.

Mr Coleman told them: “There should be no pressure in football, especially at your age, You are talking about enjoyment.

“The more you enjoy it, the better you will be.

“If there’s too much pressure you won’t enjoy it.

“Enjoy anything you do and you will quickly forget about the nerves.”

Midfielder Luke Joyce and defender Nicky Hunt, who also made the visit, were also asked questions.

The trio were asked about their superstitions, and about their fiercest opponents.

Mr Hunt said: “The best player I’ve played against is Cristiano Ronaldo. I’ve played with a few good players, like Nicolas Anelka.”

Mr Coleman added: “The favourite player I played with and managed is Paul Mullin.

“He’s a local lad, a good player, and a great person.

“I have a few superstitions.

“My daughter bought me a tie and a set of cufflinks.

“Whenever we needed to win I wore them.

“It served me well for about five years.

“But when we needed to beat Yeovil to play Manchester United in the FA Cup I put them on, and we didn’t win, so they are in the bin now.”
