A CAMPAIGN is under way to provide a series of memorials to a 14-year-old Burnley FC fan who died suddenly this year.

Friends and family of Jack Pickles have already ensured a tree has been planted at Todmorden High, where he was a Year 10 student.

And last Saturday three of his school friends completed a sponsored nine-mile run from Turf Moor to the Burnley Road school, with a number following the trio on their bikes.

Jack, who died on February 2, was described as a “popular and much-loved” youngster by teachers at the school and his friends left a number of online tributes.

Supporters at Turf Moor also conducted a minute of applause during the 14th minute of the following weekend’s fixture against West Brom in memory of Jack, who was an avid Claret and formerly attended Shade Primary School.

His image was also flashed on the scoreboard as part of the commemoration, which was arranged by his close friends and later praised by family members, including his father Jon.

His mother Selina Booth, who is married to David and has a younger son, Tommy, said: “We have planted a tree in Todmorden High School in his memory and are now raising money for a bench and a shelter to go with it.”

Plans are also being pulled together for a sponsored bag pack at Morrison’s, in Rochdale Road, this Saturday where donations can also be made to the cause. Volunteers are still needed.

If there are any funds left over, they will be donated to combination of the Make A Wish Foundation and Todmorden Youth Club, which meets at the community college in Burnley Road.

The same causes were also listed in relation for his funeral service, which took place at Todmorden Unitarian Church, followed by a private burial at Cross Stone.

The campaign revolves around a website, established by Selina, entitled Our Jack’s Fundraiser, which has already received more than £360.
