THE ambulance service for East Lancashire was again the worst performer in the country on its headline response target, new figures showed.
North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) responded to just 65 per cent of the most life-threatening incidents within eight minutes in January, which for the second consecutive month was the worst figure recorded among England’s 10 ambulance trusts.

The target for ‘Red 1 calls’ is 75 per cent. Bosses said there has been a huge spike in 999 calls, and extra staff have been recruited for the call centres and emergency crews.
