A MAN who admitted unlawfully practising tooth whitening caused burning and blistering to the mouths of a family of four he treated.
Craig Dean, 41, of Ayrshire Close, Buckshaw, Chorley, pleaded guilty at Chorley Magistrates’ Court to unlawfully practising dentistry.

On December 2, 2014 he carried out tooth whitening treatment on two adults and their two children who were aged 17 and 18 years old.
This took place at the family’s home in Wigan.
All four of the family members suffered burning and blistering to their mouths following the treatment.
The General Dental Council said that tooth whitening is the practice of dentistry.
This means it must only be carried out by registered dentists, dental hygienists, dental therapists and clinical dental technicians, working to the prescription of a dentist. The tooth whitening treatment had been advertised by Mr Dean on a Facebook page.
Dean, who has never been registered with the GDC, received a 12 month conditional discharge.
He was ordered to pay £120 compensation to each victim, a £15 victim surcharge and full costs to the GDC of £981.32.
