A 50-YEAR-OLD Clitheroe man breached a restraining order within 24 hours of being released from prison where he had been sent for a similar offence.

Blackburn magistrates heard John Andrew Stevenson turned up at his ex-partner’s home just after midnight in a drunken state shouting something about court and holding an envelope.

And the court was told it was the thirteenth breach of the order.

Stevenson, of Manor Road, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to breach of a restraining order in favour of Gemma Gawthorpe. Jailing him for 16 weeks the chairman said Stevenson had left the magistrates with “absolutely no choice”.

In addition, Stevenson was made subject to an indefinite restraining order which prohibits him from having any contact with Miss Gawthorpe or going within 500m of her home in Waddow Green.

Richard Prew, defending, said Miss Gawthorpe had confirmed on oath in previous court cases that she played “fast and loose” with the order. “When he has money to spend on her she welcomes him to the home and when it suits her she calls the police,” said Mr Prew.
