A POLISH national living in Nelson who stabbed her friend’s partner during a celebration for her saint’s day has been jailed for two years.
Anna Marczuk-Franczak, 39, plunged a knife into Piotr Kolodziejski’s neck after she had invited her fellow countryman, and his girlfriend, Magdalena Swistowksa, to mark the Feast of St Anna.
Burnley Crown Court was told that Marczuk-Franczak, of Elizabeth Street, had become melancholy as her husband was still in Poland, and her boyfriend was also away.
Marczuk-Franczak claimed she had picked up a kitchen knife after Mr Kolodziejski had become violent towards Miss Swistowksa during their visit but nevertheless she was convicted of wounding by a jury after a trial.
Jurors heard the knife, which was said to been thrust 10cm into the victim’s body, has never been found.
