IF YOU go down to the woods in Burnley, you’re sure of a woolly surprise.
The Friends of Towneley Park, Pendle Crafters and creative volunteers have been creating a wool and wood trail in Thanet Lee Wood.
The items created are set to be displayed along the trail, which will be launched with a celebration walk next Thursday.

Individuals and groups have been taking part in craft workshops designed at reducing social isolation thanks to a £2,000 grant from the East Lancashire NHS Clinical Commissioning Group’s social prescription programme.
The groups have made creatures, insects, flora and fauna to fit in with the woodland as well as peg people who will lead visitors through the wood, which is wheelchair accessible.
Maureen Frankland, from the Friends of Towneley Park, said: “It has been a great project, but it was difficult to involve people who were isolated.
“However, we have managed to get lots of people who were on their own such as carers and people in sheltered accommodation to get involved and they have absolutely loved it.”
Groups that have created items for the project include CarersLink Lancashire, Rossendale Trefoil, Crosshills Sheltered Accommodation in Padiham, Lower Ridge Residential Home, in Burnley, the Knit and Natter sessions at the District Coffee House, in Burnley, Holmefield House in Barrowford, Victoria Park Pavilion Crafters, in Nelson, and the Creative Carers at the Greenfield Community Centre in Rawtenstall.
The trail launch will take place between 10.30am and noon. Anybody wishing to take part should meet at the Bowling Green, near Offshoots.
The projects will be on display until September 20.
Maureen added: “I hope the public enjoy it as much as we do. I think it is wonderful for people of all ages.
“People into knitting will look at it and admire it and people who have children will find it an ideal place to visit.”
The Friends of Townley Park s a registered charity whose purpose is to improve the facilities and the environment of Towneley Park by working in partnership with Burnley Borough Council.
Membership is open to any user of Towneley Park.
The main activities include promoting the benefits of the park for visitors and users.
