THREE young men have admitted to their roles in a street attack in Padiham which left 45-year-old hospitalised with serious head injuries and a friend also badly hurt.

Philip Giles and Kevan Brown, then said to be 48, were taken to the Royal Preston Hospital for treatment after being subjected to violence on Park Road, close to the town’s leisure centre, last October.

Detective Inspector Nick Hodgeson, the Burnley CID investigating officer, described the incident as a ‘nasty attack’ and three arrests were made soon after the incident.

Oliver Lord Chadwick, 20, of Arran Street, Burnley, has now admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on Mr Giles, in relation to the October 11 incident, during at hearing at Burnley Crown Court.

Craig Alan Wilkinson, 20, of Venice Avenue, Burnley, pleaded guilty to an offence of affray, also involving Mr Giles and Mr Brown.

Blake Dawtrey, 21, of Adamson Street, Padiham, denied the same affray offence but pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour.

Chadwick and Dawtrey each also admitted an offence of battery in relation to Mr Brown.

All three had denied an inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent concerning Mr Giles.

Judith McCullogh, prosecuting, said the pleas were acceptable to the Crown.

Dawtrey is also facing sentence over another affray offence this Friday.

He was remanded in custody until then and Wilkinson and Chadwick were bailed, to the same hearing, to await sentence.
