STUDENT Daniel Lovatt-Henshaw has always wanted to work with cars and now he has been honoured for his outstanding achievements in an annual apprenticeship awards.

The 16-year-old from Longridge took the Overall Apprenticeship Award at the annual Blackburn College Apprentice Awards night.

The former St Cecilia’s RC High School student has been working as an apprentice at Bowker BMW, while studying Level 2 Two motor vehicle at Blackburn College’s new Regional Automotive Technology Hub in Feilden Street.

Daniel said: “The apprenticeship made me learn a lot quicker and I have always wanted to work with cars so when the opportunity came up to work with Bowker through Blackburn College, I jumped at it.

“I have got a lot more confidence now. I have met lots of new people on the course and I particularly enjoy rebuilding engines.”

Congratulations also went to Blackburn with Darwen Council for being awarded a Blackburn College Apprenticeship Award for their Commitment to Training and Development.

Nicola Rayner, HR consultant for the Council, said: “We provide a number of apprenticeships across the council, as they bring new ideas and fresh approaches to a working environment.

“We find our apprentices extremely supportive.”

Sixteen apprentices and 12 employers were presented with certificates in apprentice-related subject areas including sport; health, social care and childcare; hairdressing and beauty therapy; catering and hospitality; creative arts and construction; business, computing and motor vehicle and business and commercial.
