DARWEN Town Council has been criticised over the state of its new website.

In December councillors agreed to commission Phil Holden of IT firm Fahrenheit 451 to revamp the website at a cost of £500.

But complaints have been made that the website is still not complete, while the decision to give the job to a firm based in Yorkshire Street, Accrington, has also come under fire.

Local historian Tony Foster said: “Darwen Town Council seems interested in attracting visitor and businesses into Darwen so why did it offer a contract to an Accrington-based firm to developed their website at their December meeting? It is still not possible to view any council minutes.

“Why is the new website, in the latest news, making people aware of a meeting that took place five months ago?

“Also, the children of Darwen are being asked to submit entries to a competition that ended almost 12 months ago. When will the website be fit for purpose?”

At a meeting of the council earlier this month, Cllr John East said: “It is a pretty poor do after three months. It makes us look like fools.”

Mr Holden was unavailable for comment.
