A MAN has appeared in court charged with carrying out a sustained attack on a Burnley grandmother with a wooden plank.
Janos Bereczki, 37, who has been accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Jacqueline Christie, was brought before Pennine Magistrates Court in custody.
Bereczki, of Springfield Road, Burnley, is also charged with stalking Jodie Mulvaney, Mrs Christie’s daughter-in-law.

It is alleged that he harassed Ms Mulvaney by attending at an address and making marriage requests, which caused her to feel threatened or alarmed.
Not guilty pleas were indicated by Bereczki.
Magistrates sent the case for crown court trial and Bereczki, a Romanian national, was remanded in custody.
He will appear before Burnley Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on March 26.
