THERE will be extra police at Turf Moor on Saturday as Burnley take on Manchester City in the Premier League.

Officers have called on all fans to enjoy the match, which will kick off at the later than usual time of 5.30pm, peacefully.

They are asking supporters to allow plenty of time to get to the ground and if they are travelling in cars, to keep them locked and not to leave valuables on show. Fans should also ensure their personal belongings are kept safe and secure at all times.

There will be a visible policing presence during the match and officers are urging fans to respect each other and watch the game peacefully.

Supt Julian Platt, of East division, said: “As always, we have worked very closely with both clubs when planning the policing operation for the game.

“There will be a larger visible police presence in and around the ground and the town centre to ensure public safety and ensure that the match goes ahead without incident, while at the same time ensuring that those not interested in the football can go about their business.

“The majority of fans do behave in a responsible manner, but there can be a minority that spoil it for others. We will not tolerate any incidents of disorder and any so called fans that cause disruption will face the consequences of their actions.

“Given the large amount of people expected to attend the game it will be busy on the transport networks and I would ask people to bear that in mind when planning to travel.

“I would also urge people to keep their valuables safe, cars locked with nothing on display, use safe and secure car parks and keep your personal belongings like your keys, wallets and purses in zipped bags or front pockets.”
